Life is interesting. It usually takes you on the most unexpected of roads. The funny thing about my road is that it was completely expected (and is being realized). I grew up in a family with no connection to the filmmaking industry, but from an early age I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
The feeling that working in the film industry is the right choice for me is deep in my gut. It drives me and makes me determined to dedicate my life to becoming a Director of Photography.
I enrolled in Brooks Institute, a highly-regarded 52-year old photography school in Santa Barbara. I studied cinematography at the film school campus in Ventura. I will complete my bachelor’s degree with honors in Fine Arts in June 2008.
At Brooks I met many wonderful and interesting film teachers who have guided me and taught me invaluable lessons about the industry. They involved me in many of their film projects giving me real-world experience. I made industry contacts and friendships that will last a lifetime. To all of them I say “thank you.”
After I graduate, I plan to add to my professional experience by working as an intern alongside an established screenwriter/producer. Eventually, I plan to attend the master’s program in cinematography at the American Film Institute (AFI) in Hollywood.
I want to spend my life working on films that not only entertain but open minds. I want to make people aware of their own feelings and help them find their path in life.
